Laura Clarke
Laura joined the Centre for Print Research as part of Expanding Excellence in England (E3) investment from Research England in November 2019, as Research Technician in Print Technologies following a previous position at City and Guilds of London Art School where she was Tutor of Traditional Print for 8 years. She works closely and collaboratively with CFPR researchers and our artists-in-residence to support the development of ideas and testing methods to explore innovative solutions to complex problems and challenges, incorporating her knowledge in multi-disciplinary ways into the realms of engineering, sculpture and design.
Laura is also a visual artist, collaborative printmaker and curator as part of the Rented by the Hour collaborative. Laura has worked as an Artist’s Assistant for Prof Marilene Oliver, University of Alberta and the British sculptor Kate MccGwire. She has editioned prints for many high profile artists.
Laura’s work has been shown at many national and international exhibitions and film festivals including the London Original Print Fair, Royal Academy Summer Show, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Brighton Fringe Festival, London Short Film Festival, the Young Artists Moscow Biennale, Cob Gallery, London and the Smokehouse Gallery among others.
Laura was awarded the Alf Dunn Prize and Augustus Martin Prize for her graduating work during her MA at the Royal College of Art in 2010. She also received the William Barry Scholarship in 2008/2009, the Lumb’s Educational Foundation Award in 2008/2009, the Fred and Pat Tuckman Award in 2008/2009 and the Alfred Foster Settlement in 2008/2009. From 2012 – 2015 Laura was awarded a Fellowship at the Royal Academy Schools. She has worked as a Master Printer for the Royal Academy.

Laura has expertise in digital print, laser cutting and traditional print including etching, photopolymer gravure, screen printing and the FAG proofing press.

Teaching
Laura provides 1:1 and small group training and mentoring in her specialist field of printmaking, working from basic techniques through to instruction of complex techniques and processes, applying the knowledge to the specific projects and research areas. She has experience of teaching students from BA to PhD, graduate teaching fellows and interns.
Laura have also written and delivered CPD courses for Etching and Photopolymer Gravure.
