
Sonny Lee Lightfoot
Sonny joins the CFPR to support Dr Tavs Jorgensen on his AHRC/ RCUK funded Innovation Fellowship Smart Tooling for Ceramic Profile Extrusion: New Approaches to Industrially focused Interdisciplinary Practice Based Research. The main aim of this enquiry is to explore research challenges and innovation opportunities through a practitioner investigation in the combined research area of design, architecture and robotics focusing on the process of ceramic profile extrusion, seeking extend the current uses of this process into more innovative and design led applications. Sonny is also working as a technician (Product Design).
Sonny graduated from the fine art course at UWE in 2013, and previously worked in the CFPR assisting David Huson on the development of 3D printable ceramic materials. He has experience as a Technical Demonstrator in 3D Digital Design and Ceramics and as a Visiting Lecturer on an Art and Design Foundation Course, both at Bath Spa University. He also has a collaborative art practice, Copper Sounds, which is a multidisciplinary expedition into sound, ceramics, printmaking, mould making and digital craft. In February this year he was part of the project ‘Ecstatic Material,’ funded by ACE/ Esmée Fairbairn, touring to nine venues in nine days across England (inc South London Gallery, De la Warr Pavilion, MK Gallery and the Arnolfini) getting participants to record a wax 7″ record.
