Alive ! Contemporary Printmaking at Druckwerk Print and Art, Basel
CFPR have pleasure in announcing our collaboration with druckwerk print and art, The Racket Club, EDITION ‘POW!’, we will be showcasing contemporary printmaking from a multitude of angles, delighting in its reach across disciplines and declaring its expressive potency beyond the multiple.
The CFPR will be showcasing the Curio Case at druckwek print – a portable standalone exhibition installation that is designed to evoke playfulness and exploration. The Curio Case is conceived by Carinna Parraman, Julia Kowalska, Mike White and Laura Clarke at the Centre for Print Research. Across the days we will be sharing a range of small but perfectly curated exhibitions and printmaking activities that all can participate.
Caterina Lastrucci, MA Fine Art: Curating student at UWE Bristol, has selected and curated works for the Curio Case from the recent Artists’ Residency programme. Artists have explored a range of themes related to ecology, the environment, migration, and identity. Artists include Alicia Paz, Tracey Bush, Helen Carnac, Alice Kettle & Carinna Parraman, Navid Azimi Sajadi, R James Healy, Cecilia Mandrile and Lucrecia Urbano.
Angie Butler, Senior Research Fellow, presents The Women Artist-Printers’ Portfolio project, conceived to amplify the voices of women who print letterpress. The portfolio consists of eight works (two made in collaborative pairs) that explore, examine and critique the theme of Allyship. Participating artists: Angie Butler & Nancy Campbell, Rebecca Chesney, Pauline Clancy, Theresa Easton, Beck Howson, Hilary Judd & Lucy May Schofield, Rachel Marsh and Heather Mullender-Ross.

Sarah Bodman, Associate Professor – Artists’ Books and Subject Lead MA Printmaking, has curated a small selection of artists’ books from the CFPR archive created by alumni, staff members and collaborators, visiting artists and writers who have worked with us via our symposia, exhibitions, World Book Night projects recently and currently. Jonathan Ward, Artist’s bookmaker, printmaker, Senior Lecturer in Illustration BA (Hons) UWE Bristol, project co-ordinator and Associate member of CFPR. Jonathan presents his ongoing project PLOT – an investigation of the word ‘plot’ through the creative form of the Artists’book. It involves the creation of 20 hand-printed and assembled Artists’books by 20 creative practitioners, re-using 4 different die-cut forms (originally designed for John Purcell Paper) and exploring their chosen visual response to the word ‘plot’. makingspace-design.com/artistsbooks @plot_artistsbook
druckwerk print and art is a collective studio dedicated simultaneously to nurturing traditional printmaking knowledge and securing its omgoing role as a contemporary art medium. The studio is located in the Werkraum Warteck pp, for many years the popular home to the Liste art fair.
