From discussions with artists, librarians, publishers and curators in the Nordic / Scandinavian regions it has become apparent that there is a vital need for knowledge about artists’ books. A public discussion at Malmö Artist’s Book Biennial (MABB) in 2018 spawned an idea to make a seminar on libraries and artists’ books.
This collaborative project, funded by the Nordic Culture Point, aims to bring together artists, publishers, librarians and curators to discuss some of the problems around identifying, collecting, archiving, curating, storing and working with artists’ books. This includes seminars and practical making session with artists’ books, on identifying and cataloguing these artefacts, public engagement, exhibiting and creating artists’ books.
The project lead will invite participants from Nordic/Scandinavian countries to attend a two-day seminar in Bergen in December. Selected participants will also be invited to attend / exhibit at the Bristol Artist’s Book Event (BABE) taking place at the Arnolfini, Bristol in Spring 2022.
This project hopes to expand the understanding of book arts practices and work towards a more sustainable, innovative and culturally successful discipline. You can read more about our plans here.
