Bringing print to schools

We are pleased to share outcomes of our collaboration with the Future Quest . Centre for Print Research run four workshops in three Bristol schools with a help of UWE students volunteers. The aim of our workshops is to introduce design and craft to younger students and show overlaps between arts and science using accessible tools, known to kinds, like LEGO bricks and dots. Through print-related work we also expose students to universities, normalise the idea of creativity leading to career patch.

The project started in our research lab where we trained CFPR staff and student volunteers while testing printing workshop for kids. Later, students and staff under supervision of Director Carinna Parraman and Master Printer Laura Clarke visited: Parkwall Primary School, Severn Beach Primary School and Barley Close Primary School. During creative sessions students designed and produced multiple prints. Here’s the feedback we received after successfully completed four workshops:

,,The children loved the freedom to be able to create whatever they wanted to and enjoyed hearing about the different careers that were open to them.”

”It was a great session and the kids absolutely loved it. The volunteers where all amazing with the children, taking lots of time to chat with them. It was really nice to hear about other options of careers the children can go into.”

Richer in experience and inspired by colourful work of young printmakers, CFPR starts next project- travelling Cabinet of Curiosities. We will showcase work of CFPR’s Artists in Residence and run more creative workshops.

The Cabinet of Curiosities will become a touring exhibition and we are particularly keen to engage with audiences who might not ordinarily be comfortable in contemporary galleries by touring the exhibition to other venues such as schools, museums and libraries and places of work – if you would like to host the exhibition please email us.
