Michael O’Shea- How does print communication use materiality, context and metaphor for multi-sensory meaning-making?

With the rapid shift from information-led printed ephemera to multifunctional digital objects, what impact could this change have on tacit knowledge formation and how we make sense of the world?

Michael’s practice focuses on communication as an opportunity to create relatable and inclusive connections. He uses the inherent meaning and cultural understanding held in materials and objects to inform and strengthen the communicative power of a printed piece. Examples of his design are held in national collections including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the National Galleries Scotland, the British Library, the Bodleian Libraries, the Henry Moore Institute and the Tate. Michael was formerly Lecturer in Design at The University of Edinburgh and is a CFPR Visiting Fellow at UWE Bristol.
