Artists-in-Residence Exhibitions | Bower Ashton Library, UWE Bristol, UK | On show until Weds 29th October 2025
We have two displays by our postgraduate students’ artist-in-residence awards supported by CFPR. They have been busy in the library researching and making work over the summer to share with visitors to the library in a vitrine display each:
Hannah Madeleine Kelly – Before the deluge – On the edge of light – A miniature cross section.
My work is rooted in human connection to place, natural materiality & ecology. I observe moments as landscapes from the perspective of the small and a naturalist. Perhaps we see continuity, yet we know there is transience throughout the minutia and the magnitude of each place experienced. Water meets land, rural meets urban, trees and homes cling to the hillside’s edge.
Leah Risby – Found information and materials
The project is a celebration of found information and materials, with items being reused from magazines and off-cuts of book cloth and board. My aim was to use as few bought materials as possible, and to use things that would be discarded.
The concertina structure of the books allows for them to become artworks for display, as well as retaining links to their original format. The narratives are humorous and sometimes surreal and are made of different words and phrases which were cut and rearranged until I found a story. I hope that the background image allows viewers to imagine their own larger stories.
These exhibitions are free and open to the public at Bower Ashton Library, Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm. The library is on the first floor of B block. Bower Ashton Library, UWE Bristol City Campus, Kennel Lodge Road. Bristol BS3 2JT, UK.
