Join us for Lithographic roll up/ non drying black ink seminar

For many years now, it has become increasingly difficult to obtain Lithographic roll-up ink and the inks we can find are inconsistent from batch to batch. With a growing demand for reliable, high-quality ink, the Centre for Print Research (CFPR, University of the West of England) and Cranfield Colours have taken the opportunity to collaborate in the research of a newly developed black lithographic roll-up ink.  

This exciting project was enabled through a grant awarded to Stephen Hoskins and the CFPR by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. The CFPR / Cranfield team are delighted to have worked both at laboratory level and in initial studio trials to produce three formulations that meet the criteria highlighted as preferable or essential. Having reached the stage where commercial batches are now in production, the research team are eager to send out samples for trial and await feedback to influence any remaining alterations that may be beneficial. 

The team, and particularly Milly Hardy our Research Associate, are indebted to the Lithographers who have generously engaged with the project, including Tamarind Institute and Lemonade Press, Bristol. Our initial video calls and seminars were highly informative and through these discussions the team confirmed just how rarely lithographic ink is used ‘straight from the tin’. A sizeable number of printers ‘modify’ by blending formulations or introducing further mediums. Understanding not only the extent and nature of such modifications but the rationale behind them has influenced the selection of raw materials and the balance of the ink formulations. 

We would like to invite you to a conclusive seminar taking place on 8th August 2024 where you will meet the makers, we will discuss the project and of course you will also have the opportunity to ask us any questions and we hope to provide some samples to take away with you.
