World Book Night 2023 at UWE Bristol, We Remember
Exhibitions at UWE Bristol and Hong Kong Design Institute
Inspired by the work of Joe Brainard (I Remember) and Georges Perec (Je me souviens), the theme for United Artists World Book Night 2023 was ‘We Remember’. Artists, writers and the public were invited to respond through text or image. Each participant receives a copy of the commissioned keepsake ‘We Remember’ image: Ioulia Akhmadeeva & text: Sylee Gore, produced at the London Centre for Book Arts.
114 artists responded by sharing memories with us this year from 21 countries: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Mexico, Nepal, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Sweden, UK, and USA.
The exhibition of the images, words and artists’ books that make up this collective memory can be visited until Friday 30th June 2023 at Bower Ashton Library. An exhibition in Hong Kong Design Institute will follow from 30th July – 30th Sept 2023, organised by Jessica Ho Yuk Ching.
