Michael Joyce-Badea

Michael is a Research Associate at CFPR, working remotely since 2025 to support Tavs Jorgensen on the development of smart tooling for ceramic profile extrusion. His work focuses on CAD modelling, programming for digital fabrication, and the design of complex geometries for extrusion dies and moulds.

Michael originally joined CFPR as a Research Technician from 2020 to 2023, contributing to research projects with programming, robotic control, parametric design, and toolpath generation. From 2023 to 2024, he worked at an architectural firm specialising in parametric design, where he developed custom digital tools and contributed to the design of complex building components.

He holds an MSci in Mathematics from Royal Holloway, University of London, and completed a PhD at the University of Greenwich in pedestrian simulation and computational geometry. He is experienced in CAD and computational design, with expertise in Rhino and Grasshopper, Fusion 360, Onshape, Python, and C++.

Alongside his research work, Michael maintains a generative drawing practice using a custom-built pen plotter, producing editioned works on paper with bespoke software.
