CENTRE FOR PRINT RESEARCH CELEBRATION OF WORK EXHIBITION

Join us in celebrating over 25 years of pioneering research, collaboration, and innovation in print! Our exhibition showcases the diverse and exciting work of staff, PhD students, members, and associates from the Centre for Print Research (CFPR)—a globally recognised research centre at the University of the West of England, Bristol. The CFPR is a unique, multidisciplinary centre that combines expertise in traditional printmaking and digital fabrication, colour printing, and reproduction technologies, developing creative solutions that shape the future of print, craft, design, and additive manufacturing.

Expanding Excellence in Print Research

In 2019, CFPR was awarded £7.7M from UK Research and Innovation’s (UKRI) Expanding Excellence in England (E3) Fund, enabling the Centre to significantly enhance its research capacity, research team and international impact. This funding has enabled CFPR to:

✔ Expand its state-of-the-art research laboratories at UWE Bristol’s Frenchay Campus

✔ Deepen its investigation into the artistic, historical, and industrial significance of creative print practices

✔ Foster new partnerships with global institutions, industry leaders, and artists to drive innovative research.

As a result of the E3 funding, CFPR continues to lead internationally in print-based research, bringing together expertise from fields including kind and sustainable materials, fine art, craft and design, and digital manufacturing.

Exploring the Future of Print

This exhibition highlights work across CFPR’s four key research areas:
? Material Futures: Towards Sustainable Methods – Developing kind materials through novel printing, growing, digital and craft processes for a more sustainable future.
? Digital Manufacturing: Additive, Subtractive, Hybrid – Pioneering advancements in 3D printing, laser cutting, and hybrid digital fabrication.
? Print and Imaging: Reappraising the Past – Revitalising historic printmaking techniques through contemporary imaging technology.
? Visual Art, Print and Artists’ Books: Methods and Making – Showcasing experimental approaches to printmaking, fine art, and book arts.

One exhibition highlight includes The Cabinet of Curiosities, a travelling exhibition created in collaboration with CFPR Editions and the Artists in Residence programme. This collection brings together innovative and experimental works by visiting artists who have explored new technologies and materials in print during their residencies. Showcasing diverse approaches, The Cabinet of Curiosities reflects the dynamic intersection of traditional printmaking, digital processes, and contemporary fine art practice.
