Wuon-Gean Ho, Research Associate
Wuon-Gean Ho joined the Centre for Fine Print Research as part of the Expanding Excellence in England (E3) fund in November 2019, as a Research Associate and the Editor of the IMPACT Printmaking Journal (a peer-reviewed academic publication) following a previous career as a printmaker and artist.
She is also studying for a PhD in ways of capturing touch and gesture in printmaking, supervised by Associate Professor Dr Tavs Jorgensen (Director of Studies), Associate Professor Dr Clare Johnson and Professor Steve Hoskins.
Wuon-Gean has curated international printmaking shows in Qijiang, China (2009 and 2011), Tennessee, USA (2013) and given lectures at the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, China (2019), Changsha Normal University, China (2015 and 2018), Kyoto Seika University, Japan (2013). She was a keynote speaker at the Print Symposium Wrexham, Wales (2018) and the SGCI conference in New Orleans USA (2015), amongst others.
Her work has been shown in numerous national and international shows, including the Biennial International d’Estampe Contemporaine de Trois Rivières (Canada) (2017), the Liège Printmaking Biennial (Belgium) (2013, 2015, 2020) and the René Carcan International Prize for Printmaking (Belgium) (2018, 2020).
Wuon-Gean has been awarded residencies at the Sitka Center for Arts and Ecology, Caldera Arts Center, both in the USA, the Xiaoxiang International Printmaking Residency at Changsha Normal University, China. She was the recipient of the Japanese government Monbukagakusho Scholarship to study traditional Japanese Printmaking in Kyoto, Japan. Her artist books have been awarded the British Institution Award at the Royal Academy Summer show, the first and second prize at Libri Mai Mai Visti in Italy, and the Birgit Skiöld Memorial Trust prize at the National Art Library at the V&A Museum London. Wuon-Gean was the coin designer for the Lunar Series of coins for The Royal Mint from 2014–18.
