Visiting the Conference

Travelling to Future Textiles Conference 2023

The Conference is taking place in EP1, based at the University of the West of England's Frenchay campus.

1. Arriving by bus

There are lots of buses that go directly to the Frenchay campus, and from there the conference venue is a 15-minute walk. You can find walking directions from the bus stop below.
From the centre of Bristol: Services M1 and M3 leave every 10 minutes from the city centre and take around 15 minutes. Contactless payment is available on this service.

From Bristol Temple Meads Station: Service 70 leaves every 20 minutes from the station and takes around 40 minutes. Contactless payment is available on this service.

From Bristol Parkway Station: Service 11 leaves roughly every 30 minutes from Parkway station and takes around 10 minutes. Contactless payment is available on this service.

These are the most direct routes, but there are 7 bus routes in total that serve other areas of the city. You can find all of the details on the First Bus website and TravelWest website.

When you arrive at the Frenchay campus bus stop - either by bus or by taxi - it then takes around 15 minutes to walk to the conference venue.

3. Arriving by Train

Filton Abbey Wood Station:
This is the closest station to walk from. It is around a 20-minute walk away, a 5-minute cycle or 5-minute drive, and serves local trains from Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads.

Bristol Parkway: is the closest station that serves long-distance trains, it is a 30-minute walk from the venue, a 10-minute cycle, or a 5-minute drive.

Bristol Temple Meads: This station is in the city centre; it has train links to both Bristol Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood Stations. You can take a bus directly from Temple Meads Station, which will take around 40 minutes. See the bus information. It is a 20-minute drive to the conference venue.

4. Arriving by bike

If you are cycling to the conference, there are lots of cycle-friendly routes to the UWE campus, and facilities when you arrive.

UWE has compiled a map of all cycle routes to their campuses, including Frenchay, where the Engage venue is. This includes the bike route from Bristol Parkway Station.

When you get to the conference venue, there is lots of sheltered bike parking to the right-hand side of the building.

There are lots of other cycle facilities across the UWE campus if you need them, including bike pumps and tool stations.

5. Arriving by taxi

When ordering a taxi to Frenchay campus, drivers will usually take you to the East Entrance, which is where the main bus stop is. You will then have a 15-minute walk to get to the Engage venue. See the directions from the bus stop above.

You can instead ask them to follow the driving instructions below and be taken to directly to the conference venue. Tell them to take you to the old HP Estates – this is signposted from the MOD roundabout near Sainsburys.  
6. Driving
There is free parking at the venue – please park on the right-hand side of the car park. Please follow these directions they will bring you directly to the venue car park:

• From the A4174/Filton Road follow signs for the MOD, exit the roundabout and then move into middle lane.
• At the first roundabout, take the 2nd exit.
• At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit.
• At the barrier - access will be given to conference delegates.
• Keep left/downhill until you reach car park at front of EP1.
• Please park on the right-hand side of the car park.

Please note: if you are driving into the city centre of Bristol, the Clean Air Zone is now in operation.
