Conference and Events Facilitator

Location: Frenchay Campus
Salary: Grade D: £22,847 – £26,341 per annum

Occupied as part of a team, you will be working primarily on preparing and delivering two
international conferences hosted by Centre for Print Research across Frenchay and the City
campus. You will have a flair for thinking creatively, quickly and spontaneously, engaging and
communicating with many different people and backgrounds both in preparation for the
conference and during the event. There will also be other smaller events and talks throughout the year.

Leading up to the conferences, both will require day to day administrative support including
administrating the peer review stage for panels, papers, exhibitions, posters, managing the
collection of speaker abstracts, draft the conference programme, prepare the briefs for
speakers. As well as being the point of contact for all conference attendees and responding to
a range of queries relating to submissions, exhibitions, trade fair, sponsorship, delegate rates,
travel and hotels.

You will be required to maintain the conference website and other social media platforms,
keeping content up-to-date and accurate and assist with our online conference platform. You
will also be required to set up and pay suppliers, purchase materials and consumables
escalating to the University Finance and Procurement team when required, book catering and
manage registration.


Graduate Internship – CFPR Impact Conference Intern
Open to UWE final year, UK undergraduate students

Application closing date: 8 April 2022, 5pm
8 Weeks/full time (296 hours) £9.90 per hour (£366.30 for 37hr/week full time)

This is a UWE Bristol Internal Undergraduate Internship – in partnership with the Centre for Print Research’s Frenchay labs and studios

Based at UWE’s Frenchay Campus you will help us get ready for our international Print Conference IMPACT 12: The Printmakers Voice. During June, July and August, there will be a significant degree of hands-on preparation, including technical support for printing signs; handling prints, hanging work with conference artists, printing labels of artworks. You will also be working with the team to support artists who are attending the Artist /Design in Residence programme. 

Interviews will take place on 26th May for shortlisted candidates.


Graduate Internship – CFPR Book and Print Summer Institute Intern
Open to UWE final year, UK undergraduate students

Application closing date: Mon 23 May 2022, 5pm
8 Weeks/full time (296 hours) £9.90 per hour (£366.30 for 37hr/week full time)

Based at Bower Ashton campus, working with Sarah Bodman. You’ll be helping us set up materials and get ready for our summer classes, assisting the tutors and sitting in on one or two of the classes to learn whilst you are assisting. There will also be options to help install exhibition in the library, and work with our artists’ books archive at CFPR. We need someone who is available from 20th June – 12th August.

Interviews will take place on Monday 30th May for shortlisted candidates.


Artist / Designer in Residence

We welcome artists and design practitioners to come and work with us on a 1 to 2 month residency programme (30 – 60 days). We are looking for a range of artists and designers – from unconventional to inspirational – who are makers, working at any level of their career, and are advancing the boundaries of art, design and technology. The residencies will take place at our new labs and studios at Frenchay Campus.

As an Artist or Designer in residence, you will make a body of work that will contribute to the CFPR archive and the editions portfolio. You will have a curiosity and range of interests that may include (but not exclusive to) fine art, print, product design, robotics, electronics, software, manufacturing, materials science.  You will have a combination of visual, technical and creative skills, are adaptable, willing to fail, try new technologies and work outside your comfort zone.

The Artist / Designer in residence programme also presents a truly exciting opportunity for exceptional and motivated individuals to make significant contributions to the Centre’s research. As part of each residency, you will deliver a range of inspiring lectures or practice-based sessions to our researchers and postgraduate students. We will agree the number and format of such sessions (lectures, exhibitions, portfolio making etc) at the outset of the residency. You must be able confidently to present and demonstrate ideas to a cross-disciplinary community and across different audience levels and groups.

We have a range of laboratories – traditional and photomechanical print, robotics and CNC, graphene, ceramic printing and extrusion; equipment including screenprint, etching, letterpress, co-robots, multi-axis  CNC machines, laser cutter, paper plotter, 3D printing for polymers and ceramics, digital wide format inkjet and UV, photography, platemaking and wet processing, glass and ceramic kilns, colour viewing cabinet, fume cabinets; testing machines including spectrophotometer, tensile strength tester, rheometer, tensiometer.

The first residencies can be undertaken from January 2022 and the final residency will end in March 2023. So, please do not wait until the deadline: submit as soon as you are ready.
