CFPR Seminar: Aesthetics of Displacement: CFPR traces along two decades of wandering practice (23 Jan 2020)
Thursday 23 January, 13:00 – 13:30, 1B13, Bower Ashton Campus
Many critical debates have surrounded emergent technologies in the expanded field of print media. However, the displacing nature of the print process, as the ‘trans’ notion of the printed artefact, remains to be conceptualised. Through examining the potential of translation and transplantation inherent to print-based practice, I will reflect on how research undertaken at CFPR along its history has informed my wandering practice.
Cecilia Mandrile is a visual artist whose print-based practice explore the fragmentation and fluidity of identity caused by displacement. She has exhibited at international venues such as The Victoria & Albert Museum, London; El Museo del Barrio, New York; WPA Corcoran, Washington DC; the National Museum of Fine Arts, Buenos Aires, Emilio Caraffa Museum and Genaro Perez Museum, Córdoba, Argentina. Mandrile has been a resident artist at Gasworks Studios, London; Makan, Amman, Jordan, Kala Art Institute, Berkeley, Kunstihoone, Tallinn, Estonia and Ludwig Foundation of Cuba. She holds a PhD from the University of the West of England and is currently a Fellow Artist at CFPR.
