9 June 2021: Beatrice Haines – Proof of Life: Printmaking as Trace (recording available)

The overarching principle of forensic science is “Every contact leaves a trace”. Artist Bea Haines applies this to her work, creating prints that borrow from everyday life and death. Bea appropriates and manipulates unorthodox materials and likes to believe that anything can become art. Past pieces incorporate dust, sweat, blood, cobwebs, chewing gum, snail slime and human ash. Bea will discuss her research in forensic science in relation to printmaking, her residency in a forensic lab and how the forensics of everyday life informs her varied artistic practice.
