Fabio D’Agnano – Prototypes for the Blind: UNESCO 4 All Project (recording available)
Blind people are often excluded from visual art spaces. This may seem natural (they cannot see, why should they enter a museum?) but it is not. The UNESCO 4 All project, funded by the European Community, aims to make four extraordinary UNESCO sites in Europe, specifically in Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy and Spain, accessible to blind people. The project brings together wearable sensors and printed replicas of three of the sites to enable better enjoyment of the works by a blind audience.
The session will cover the challenges of the prototyping phases, both in terms of the electronics and 3D printing the replicas, from the very early prototypes to the final product.
